Developmental "Sandlot" Program

The coed instructional program is designed for both boys and girls. This program is recommended  for ages 4 – 8 years old. Basic equipment is required – Crosses (sticks), Mouth Guards and Eyewear.

Basic lacrosse skills are taught with sportsmanship and to have FUN. The basic skills are covered including cradling, throwing, passing and running. Each player is taught about the different positions; i.e., attack, middie, defense and goal. We also play small sided games (3v3) every week to give kids the thrill of competing with each other in a relaxed, low pressure environment.


8U Program

There is a dedicated boys and girls team. Basic lacrosse is taught with sportsmanship and to have FUN. The basic skills are covered including cradling, throwing, passing and running. Each player is taught about the different positions; i.e., attack, middie, defense and goal. Each player is used in these different positions at least during practices. At this level this is a non-contact sport; however, full protective equipment is required.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Have FUN while playing and understanding a competitive sport.
  2. Running and cradling, throwing and catching are the basic objectives to master.
  3. Player should know how to throw an overhand pass with either hand.
  4. Player should be able to catch with one hand, switch hands and throw with the other hand and reverse the procedure to use their non-dominant hand.

10U Program

There is a dedicated boys and girls team. Each player is presented and taught about the different positions; i.e., attach, defense, middie and goalie. Each player will be rotated through each position so that they know how to react to each position.   Each player will be used in these different positions at least during practices if not in an actual game. Basic lacrosse skills are presented and reinforced with and understanding of sportsmanship and team play. Line drills, stick handling, checking, face offs, throwing exercises, and scooping skills (i.e., ground balls) are taught, reviewed and practiced.

Warm up exercises, stretching drills, and running are all important to build endurance and confidence.   To supplement these skills a dedicated area where shooting skills can utilized and polished should be implemented.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Player should be able to cradle the ball while jogging around the box without dropping the ball.
  2. Player should be able to throw and catch the ball between 2 lines 20 feet apart.
  3. Player should be able to scoop the ball at half speed at least three times.
  4. Know how to throw overhand pass with either hand.
  5. Know the basics of playing all positions and the basics of lacrosse.

12U Program

Advanced lacrosse skills are taught to include sportsmanship and team play. Line drills, stick handling, checking, advanced clearing drills and scooping skills are taught and reviewed. Advance moves such as dodging, faking, checking, advanced ball handling (catching on the run, over the head, etc.), scooping the ball at full speed, protecting and carrying the ball, man down plays and set defensive and offensive plays are reviewed and practiced.

Players are encouraged to be able to think for themselves and to improvise. To be able to look up the field to see where teammate are positioned, which ones are free, where the field is collapsing and where is the best shooting angle against the defensive positions. How to read the other teams defense to know how to adjust our game for their playing style.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Player should be able to cradle the ball while running and dodging  opponents around the box without dropping the ball.
  2. Player should be able to throw and catch the ball between 2 players running down the field.
  3. Know how to execute the man-ball exercise for ground balls.
  4. Know how to execute long passes and clearing passes with either hand.
  5. Able and confidant to shoot the ball on goal with either hand. 
  6. Know the intermediate skill level of lacrosse and team sportsmanship.
